Maxwell Homeplace
George & Katie Lee Maxwell built their home around the turn of the century. I’m unsure of just how many rooms were in this grand home, but with 7 fireplaces, there had to be quite a few. It was here they raised their 9 children; Nancy Mae “Nannie”, Alice Lee, Daniel Alexander, James Ernest, Cordelia “Pet”, George W. “Jack”, Naomi, William Weldon, and Oscar Benton Maxwell.
George Washington Maxwell and Katie Lee Maxwell are seated. Between them are Naomi and Oscar. Standing behind left to right are William Weldon, Cordelia, Alice Lee, Nancy “Nannie”, and George “Jack”. James Ernest and Daniel Alexander are not pictured.

The house was sold by George & Katie during the depression, but was purchased by their son in law, Belton J. Jones, to keep things in the family and from there it went to Belton’s sons, Bill and Tom.
