Beulah graduated Davenport College in about 1926 and became the Director of Music at Cliffside School the same year. About 1950, she married John “Jack” Wesley Dowdle (1894-1966). They didn’t have any children, but Jack had 3 from a previous marriage to Lucille Field.

In 1931, Veola and friend, Myrtle Wilkinson, opened Madame Queen Beauty Shop in Marion, NC. Sometom before 1942 that was changed to the May Day Beauty Shoppe. May Day was spunky and would let fly what she had to say. This made her a fun part of any event. She never married and did not have any children.
